What We Actually Think
After 36 years installing cabinets from builder-grade to full custom, here’s our straight take on Klearvue.
They’re not for everyone — but for the right situation, they’re genuinely smart.
Menards sells them as easy DIY. That’s where we disagree.
What We Like
- Pre-assembled boxes — not flat-pack. Real structure out of the box.
- Lifetime warranty on boxes and hardware. Menards actually honors it.
- Modular system — add drawer kits, swap door fronts, change colors later without a full remodel.
- Tenant damages a drawer? Get a replacement at Menards. Covered.
- Locally stocked. No waiting 8 weeks for a special order.
- Affordable modern European look — other brands charge a premium for the same style. Klearvue also offers shaker and classic styles at the same price point.
- Real value at the price point — better than most cabinets in this range.
What We Don’t Like
- Particle board sides — plywood would be the stronger engineered choice. It’s the one area where cost-cutting shows.
- No scribing. When walls are out of plumb — and they almost always are — Klearvue gives you caulk. Side panels are exact size with no scribe allowance, which means gaps on imperfect walls. A professional works around this. A DIYer won’t know until it’s too late.
- One interior color. If you want glass doors, the inside won’t match your kitchen.
- Painted Klearvue is MDF. Without the right tools, side panels and filler strips chip easily during installation. This is not a forgiving material for beginners.
- Toe kicks need scribing if the floor is uneven — and most floors are. Another step most DIYers don’t account for.
- Designed for an engineer’s perfect environment. The assumption that an average homeowner can install a full kitchen is unrealistic in most real-world conditions.
- Plastic components on some hardware. Warranty covers replacement, but you’ll feel the difference vs. premium hardware.

A note on installation: Menards markets Klearvue as DIY-friendly. That’s true for a single cabinet. It is not true for a full kitchen. These cabinets are engineered for a perfect environment that doesn’t exist in most homes. Walls are out of plumb. Floors are uneven. Toe kicks need scribing. Painted MDF side panels and filler strips will chip without the right tools and technique. We’ve fixed many DIY Klearvue installs. The repair cost almost always exceeds what professional installation would have cost from the start.
What We Won’t Install
Our Minimum Standard
We install Klearvue and better. We don’t install unbranded flat-pack RTA cabinets from Amazon or unnamed online sources.
The warranty is worthless, the labor to make them right often exceeds the value of the cabinet, and we won’t put our name on work we can’t stand behind.

If you want IKEA or unbranded RTA — we’re not the right fit, and we’d rather tell you now.
